Feeds Version 1.91 Available Now
April 5, 2010 — Mike (admin)Not much changed in this version but it is very important that you update ASAP. Google will be changing the way logging in to Google Reader works in “early April”. If you are using an older version of Feeds you will not be able to sync with Google Reader. Besides that, there is a new setting for the posting of links to Instapaper, ReadItLater and Twitter. Be sure to set your preference before proceeding.
Please create an ipad version. You make the best iPhone reader.
@Jim Thanks! We have a lot of ideas on paper for an iPad version but nothing is concrete yes. We really want to play with the iPad for a bit until we can figure out some neat ways to interact with the feeds and articles. Making Feeds on the iPad without having an iPad just wasnt going to happen for us. We should have a 3G iPad by the end of the month though!
Looking forward to the iPad version! I’ve got Newsrack and Feedler on my iPad– neither understands the benefit of 15-at-a-time reading with a mark as read button.
For the iPad version of feeds, consider having a “logout” button the way that Feedler does. Unlike iPhones, iPads tend to be shared by 2 or more family members, so this helps be sure each can view their own feeds.
@Chris, looking at the available RSS readers so far nothing it striking us as innovative or using the iPad to it’s fullest. I’m not saying we will get it right but hopefully we can try something a bit different than the standard layout and interaction model that we are seeing. We’d like to pull of something that is more fun to use than the standard. Maybe it won’t work and we’ll fall back to simple but who knows. We have to give it a shot.
It keeps prompting me for my password and I know I’m using the right one but it never accepts it. Didn’t have this issue before this update
@Chris, are you using a Google Apps domain name or a normal @gmail.com account? Have you tried the username as your full email address username@gmail.com? If none of those work can you try deleting Feeds from your iPhone then redownloading it from the App Store (it will not charge you a second time)?
As mentioned above this is a totally new method of logging you in on Google’s side so there may be some oddities on our end and theirs. Hopefully we can identify the problem for you ASAP and get things working.
I am using a google apps email address, but the account is a regular Google one that just uses that email address.
I deleted and redownloaded but it still doesn’t authenticate
thanks
@Chris, do you have a non-google apps email address you can try so that we can see if that might be the issue?
After upgrading to 1.91 the app can’t start anymore. Anyone else have had that problem. Worked perfectly untill upgrade
@RWJ, can you be a bit more specific when you say “the app can’t start anymore”? Does it not load at all? Have you tried deleting the app from your iPhone and then re-downloding from the App Store?
@Mike. It does not load at all. I see a glipse of the main window and them i’m back in the home screen. I’ve tried both redownload and the reset at next start option but nothing worked
i’m running iphone OS 3.0.1 and the device is a 3Gs 32 gb. have been using you product for 1/2 a year without issues. Any additional info I need to provide
@RWJ, can you send over the crash logs? (link to get the crash logs: http://aplus.rs/apple/how-to-find-crash-logs-for-iphone-applications-on-mac-vista-and-xp/)
We have had one other report about this and I have been in contact with Apple about it. It appeared to that Feeds didn’t even get to launch which is why we are chatting with Apple about it. I am assuming your crash reports will be the same but I want to be certain.
What email should I send this to… I have found the logs but is unable to find an email to send it to and your “contact us” form does not allow files
@RWJ, send them over to questions (at) prime31.com
Yes it did work with a non google apps email address. Fix coming soon?
@Chris, Oddly enough, I just ran a test with a Google Apps login and it seemed to work even though I can’t get to the actual reader website with that login. Feeds is passing the HOSTED_OR_GOOGLE flag which lets Google decide on their end if the email address is a normal one or a Google one. Are you entering the full email address for the login name? Can you login to the normal Google Reader website with the email address?
Yes I can get into the web based app and I’m using my email address to login.
@Chris, is the email address an ‘@gmail.com’ or ‘@mail.google.com’ or some other domain? If some other domain, can you send me your device Id (http://www.prime31.com/iphone/providing-your-iphone-device-id-to-a-developer/) and I can make a special build for you so that we can figure out what is going on? I am wondering if Google is confusing your login type…
@Mike. Just downloaded Feeds 1.92 and while the release notes did not mention my problem it also fixed it (whatever it was)
thank you…
@RWJ, good to hear! That leaves us with just two people left with the odd crashing bug that leaves us no crash logs to work with.
