Feeds and Google Reader Authentication
April 6, 2010 — Mike (admin)This one goes out to anyone who is having problems logging in with the newest version (1.91) of Feeds. The only people who will be affected are those that have a Google login that is both for Google Apps and regular Google services. We just submitted a fix to Apple. To remedy the situation you will need to open the Settings.app and change the new ‘Login Type’ setting to Google. This will force Google to not use your Google Apps account which should get you logged in properly. Thanks for your patience.
Update (04/07/10): Feeds just changed status to ‘In Review’.
Update (04/07/10): Feeds just went live. Anyone who was having login issues post here if they are resolved.
Can’t seem to see any “new Login type” that can be changed to Google. Is it the settings for Feeds or some other App. Great App, how the issue can be resolved.
@Earl, the ‘Login type’ setting isn’t in the live version. Apple is reviewing it right now. It should be out in a couple days if all goes well. Is your Google login one of the ones that doesn’t work? Is it a Google Apps login, a regular Google login or a dual login?
Yes it’s the google login that doesn’t work. It’s used for general and apps (if by apps you mean earth, pics etc)
@Earl, the update should just magically work for you if all goes well. If it doesn’t, you will need to change the new setting but you probably won’t have to. Please to post here when it goes live so that I can be sure everyone is logging in successfully.
Thanks, will let you know.
Latest version has done the trick. Working well. Thanks guys
Great job! I just don’t understand why Feeds still showing a 100 tag on the icon even if I had marked them all read? It started with the earlier version and the upgrade didn’t fix.
I tried everything to reset this counter and I don’t want to have to uninstall/reinstall it and lose all my settings and subscribed feeds.
What do you think?
@niclet, have you tried turning the ‘Reset on next launch’ setting to ON? That might clear things up for you.
@admin
It worked for the Google feeds but when I toggle back to the normal Feeds setting, it shows “100″ again onthe app icon (even if everything was read).
@niclet, did you leave the Google setting OFF when you did the reset? That would ensure that it resets the old style syncing. On a side note, I do highly recommend switching over to Google syncing. All our new features have been Google only for a long time and it is a LOT faster.
@admin
I made both reset : Google setting on and off. The fact is Google’s feeds can be reset but not “standard” feeds. But, it’s alright since I’ll use Google’s feeds on a steady base now.
Thanks for your help.
When you 1st load Feeds in iOS 4 GM you cant enter the google username and password.
Worked fine from settings.
Dont know if you have tested on 4 yet.
@blackforce, we’ll get that patched up with the next update which should be going out in a week or so (Twitter integration update).
Problem is still there on ios4.
